3/14/24 scarcity and innovation

Normally I save my thoughts for the end but I hit a bump in my training that I wanted to write about. I'm traveling again for work and now I have to get creative once more. Last time I did a pure calisthenics routine, but now I'm going to be adapting my glute routine to a hotel gym setting. My mind works very well when presented with scarcity. It gets excited even. I have fun scrounging together what I can not just to survive, but to thrive and come out stronger on the other end. Today's session is light because I barely got sleep last night and my flight extended my day by extra 4 hours. With that said, it was still productive and my glute pump is satisfactory! In future sessions I want to add bilateral pump work, maybe burnouts. A big priority for me is to include a wide variety of movement patterns for my glutes no matter what.

Single leg deficit hip thrust
(6,9,8,9)e
The equipment made this a little hard. A spent a lot of my time trying to find a consistent setup. I meant to do 5 sets.... not sure if I forgot to log one, or if I forgot to do one.... I'll assume the latter to be safe.

Single leg squat
(10, 11, 8)
This is the first time I've done thes pre-fatigued. The movement pattern feels nice and crisp!

Deep step-up
1x5e
I threw these in to get a feel for progression towards shrimp squats. I feel like I have the strength but balance is killing me!

---giant set---
Arnold press 40lb
(10, 7, 8)
Chin-up
(10, 8, 8)
Cable rotations 45lb
(7, 10, 10)e
---
Not much to say about Arnold presses besides I felt humbled using 40s. I've never been particularly strong with dumbell pressing, but perhaps improving this will help my handstand stability. Chin-ups were good. I'm still focusing MMC with my serratus to great effect. Now, the juicy bit: cable rotation. I had been dying to add a rotation to my glute routine, but hadn't had the means. Once I saw the cable machine in the hotel gym, I knew what I had to do. My form isn't perfect, but rotations are an INCREDIBLE movement. They double up as an work too!
